Traceability software for manufacturing

Most manufacturers can describe what they did. Far fewer can prove it. A spreadsheet can be edited silently after the fact, so an auditor has no way to distinguish the record made on the day from the record tidied up before the visit. That gap is what turns a routine inspection into a finding, and what makes an export buyer ask for a second certificate.

Traceability is not extra paperwork. It is the ability to answer three questions quickly: where did this material come from, what was done to it, and where did it go.

Every consequential action in Batchbind is written as an append-only ledger event. Each event stores the actor, the timestamp, the payload of what changed, and a cryptographic hash that includes the hash of the event before it. The events form a chain.

Because each hash depends on its predecessor, a record cannot be quietly rewritten later: altering an old event invalidates every hash after it. Verification walks the chain and reports whether the sequence is intact and how many events were checked, so "our records are complete" becomes a check you can run rather than a claim you make.

The ledger is not a separate compliance module people forget to update. It is written as a side effect of ordinary work — approving a formula version, releasing a batch, recording a QC result — so the audit trail stays current without a parallel process.

• Suppliers and ingredient lots — country of origin, specification documents, and the certificates supplied with each delivery.
• Formulas and versions — every revision, the substitution that caused it, and the rationale recorded at the time of the change.
• Batches and manufacturing records — planned versus actual quantities, process steps, deviations, and release decisions.
• Packaging and labelling — bill of packaging, INCI or ingredient declarations, and the artwork version applied to the run.
• Shipments and destinations — which batch went to which market, under which regulatory rule pack.

The graph traverses in both directions. From an ingredient lot you can list every batch and consignment it touched — the query a recall depends on. From a finished consignment you can reconstruct the full upstream history — the query a buyer's due diligence depends on.

Export readiness usually fails on evidence, not on the product. A destination market asks for ingredient declarations in its own format, batch-level quantities, origin documentation, and increasingly carbon data. Batchbind holds each of those against the batch that produced them, with the ledger event that recorded them still attached.

For border-carbon reporting such as EU CBAM, batch footprints and the emission factors behind them are stored alongside the production record, so a submitted figure can be traced back to its source rather than restated from memory.
